But if you need a 4x4 to take 7 adults any distance, you are going to have to fork out the extra £5,000 for a Discovery 3. So does it get the nod? Emphatically yes, because it's a huge 7 seater 4x4 that does all it is supposed to, is also very good to drive on the road, promises over 30mpg and at £25,800 is very good value for money. These days £25,800 isn't a lot to pay for this much vehicle and, as with the X-Trail, Nissan stands a good chance of not having to discount. It's roughly the same size as the Discovery 3 and does pretty much the same job at prices starting £5,000 lower. And now, to grab a fat chunk of the 7-seater 4x4 school bus market, Nissan presents us with the large and perfectly formed Pathfinder, also on a tough ladderframe. Later this year we'll get a new ladderframe chassis Navara pick-up. The enormous V8 Nissan Titan is by far the best big pick-up to drive and is also hugely capable off-road. Late last year saw the introduction of the extraordinary Murano, a Lexus RX300 competitor with a detuned Nissan 350Z motor. So, unsurprisingly, one of the directions Nissan is following is the off-road route.

And demand for used X-Trails is even greater than for new ones. Nissan's X-Trail has outsold its Primera and been much more profitable because it has sold at much closer to the list price asked. The cockpit and passenger cabin are well decked out with well-placed storage, and now include a more cutting-edge infotainment and instrument cluster combination, a panoramic sunroof, tri-zone temperature control, optional leather seats and more.Īrmed with a comfortable new interior and a still relatively affordable sticker price, the Pathfinder remains a top option for those looking for a larger family SUV that’s ready for anything.Nissan is getting out of volume and into niches. Older Pathfinders all the way up to the 4th generation in 2020 were known for spartan and uninspiring interiors, but the all-new 5th generation has finally rectified this. The powerful Nissan V6 and added 259 lb-ft of torque make crossing the wildest terrain feel like a breeze. True to its name, the Pathfinder has always been about adventure, and even the newest models stay true to that heritage with the 7 different drive modes that help it easily traverse mud, snow, gravel and any rough surface you’d care to name.

At the same time, it can tow up to 6,000-lbs making it truly ideal both for day-to-day utility as well as family vacation time. It’ll get from 0 to 60 in just 6.7 seconds.ĭespite having a starting price well under $40,000, the Pathfinder is a 3-row SUV with optional captain’s chairs in the second row and therefore can seat up to 7 or 8 people in total. This impressive engine outputs 284-hp which helps the Nissan Pathfinder be one of the fastest large SUVs in its class, faster than the Kia Telluride and Toyota Highlander. The new Pathfinder is powered by a 3.5L V6 engine that it gets from the 4th generation. The current generation is the fifth generation, which was released in 2021 for the 2022 model year. Its design has taken a long journey that many Nissan models have undertaken from boxy 1980s design to a more rounded sporty design. The Nissan Pathfinder has been a prominent feature of the Nissan SUV range since its arrival in 1985.
